Split Lighting

Today I visited the studio to take some pictures of one of my close friends, Alex. My experience while creating my portfolio was very enjoyable and it went really well. I had a lot of fun taking pictures of her during the photo-shoot because it is something I love to do. Throughout the process it was very simple and went rather quickly because she was being herself and posed in different ways that she liked. Before we started the photo-shoot, I played music that she would enjoy to set up a calm environment and allow her to remain comfortable. The light set up that I used was Split Lighting because the set is easy to follow and gives a more dramatic look; I also captured a few pictures of Alex using Ring Lighting. To begin the Split lighting I adjusted the light source to the left side of my model, either side could work; one side of my models face was a strong highlighted side and one the other side it was a strong shadow side which would give a Split Light down the center of their nose.

For the theme, I chose Durham College Spirit Wear because of her school sweater (media, art and design). For my portfolio, Alex and I were supporting the students of Durham College and any future students who attend the photography/video program in the years to come.
